Four Facets Friday: Building Habits for Success

Happy Friday! I hope everyone’s having an awesome week! Here are our bullet points for this week’s Four Facets Friday!

Happy-  Good > Pleasure

Many philosophers have debated what’s best for the soul. My personal conclusion is that doing what’s good is more important than doing what’s pleasurable, and will overall lead to a happier life. Eating a healthy dinner is good, eating ice cream and cookies is pleasurable. Pleasure typically refers to something that feels great in the moment, but isn’t overall good for us long term. When you’re going about your daily and weekly routine, choose what’s good over what’s pleasurable.

Healthy-  Wait to drink your coffee!

I love coffee. Caffeine helps me get locked in and focus. It’s important, however, to understand how it works and to use it wisely. If you drink caffeine as soon as you wake up, you’re way more likely to experience a crash in the early afternoon. Andrew Huberman, neuroscientist at Stanford, recommends waiting 60-90 minutes after waking up to get in your daily dose of caffeine. Giving your body time to wake up naturally, before jump-starting it with caffeine, will give you the same benefits with less downside.

Wealthy-  The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason

The Richest Man in Babylon is one of my favorite books when it comes to personal finance. Originally published in 1926, it’s filled with timeless principles that will help you wrap your head around how to manage your money, and how to get it to work for you. A lot of personal finance books can be dry. They go over numbers, data, and strategies which make sense, but leave you disinterested. This book uses lots of stories and examples that keep you engaged, while also illustrating the principles of creating wealth. If you’re looking to learn about how to increase your bank accounts, I highly recommend this read!

Wise-  The Game with Alex Hormozi

This is hands down one of my favorite podcasts. Alex is an interesting guy who offers tons of free advice on sales, leadership, and growing a business. His goal is to take his company, Acquisition.com, to a billion dollars, and his podcast, The Game, is him documenting the process. He says he wishes Buffet, Bezos, and Musk documented their journeys, so he’s doing it for the rest of us. If you’re looking for something to listen to in the car, give this a try!
