Five Bullet Friday! – How do you spend your time?

Welcome back to Five-Bullet Friday! Here’s what we have for you this week:

1.  How do you spend your time?

I think Quarantine turned out to be quite a revealing time for everyone. Many people always find themselves saying “Well I’d do ____ if I just had more time”. For me, it was getting back in great shape. I long made the excuse I didn’t have the time to do it. Well, Quarantine hit and I had to make a decision, was I going to get back in great shape, or was I a liar? I ain’t no liar! Over 3 months I dropped nearly 40 pounds. The best part is I did it through healthy lifestyle changes, not some fad diet. Now no matter how busy I get moving forward I can maintain my health and fitness with some basic principles I picked up while I had a whole bunch of free time. A wise man once said, “Show me where you spend your time, and I’ll show you your priorities”. How’d you spend your Quarantine?

2.  “Everyone’s got a plan till they get punched in the mouth” – Mike Tyson

I found a lot of people set a lot of lofty goals during Quarantine, but dreaming is easy, the work to make it a reality is what separates the winners from the wannabes.  Some people are coming out of Quarantine like a man on fire, hell-bent on following through and seeing their vision come to fruition. Others I’ve seen get punched in the mouth. It’s important to know, it’s okay if you’ve been punched in the mouth. Everyone will be.  Maybe not today or this week, but it’s coming. What’s important is how you respond. Can you keep your nerve? Can you stick to the plan and stay focused even though it hurts, even though you’re in pain? Is your dream more important to you than the short term pain you’re feeling right now? It’s got to be. If it’s not, we need a more deep-seeded dream and why. I’m a firm believer the difference between people who fight through the pain, and the ones who don’t is a simple word: clarity. I have great clarity on what I want, and I’m committed to doing whatever it takes to get it. I think people who get punched and give up don’t; they’re too wishy-washy. Get clear on what you want, why it’s important to you, and get to work. Plan on getting punched. Plan on sucking it up and swinging back.

3.  You’re a caveman…or woman

Part of fixing my physique was fixing my mentality. I used to have this negative belief that I was just naturally a little chunky. I would be willing to bet most people carry some sort of negative self-image about their bodies. As I looked deeper into my beliefs I discovered something: I’m not special (and neither are you). As much we like to pretend to be sophisticated, we’re still homo sapiens. We’re built to be hunter-gatherers. Your body is designed to survive in the wilderness. To live in a cave and go hunt animals. Our physical bodies haven’t evolved much in a thousand years. What that means is we are all NATURALLY in peak physical condition. Anything else is strictly poor maintenance. You’re supposed to be on your feet and moving/exercising throughout the day. You’re supposed to eat enough calories to support your daily functions (and that’s it). If we’re not moving, if we’re eating too much that’s NOT NATURAL! Replace your negative beliefs about your body with a simple one:  You’re a caveman… or woman, act like it.

4.  Athletic Greens

One of my new favorite supplements that helps me stay on my A-game. Athletic Greens takes all of the best green vegetables and supplements that you could imagine and packs them all into one pretty good tasting 50 calorie drink. Everything from wheatgrass to probiotics, this thing packs a punch and gets you all the fiber and nutrients you could hope to get from anything green. I get mine on a monthly subscription basis, if you don’t eat enough vegetables or just want to supercharge your body, I highly recommend checking them out! www.AthleticGreens.com

5.  “I am not a product of my environment.  My environment is a product of me.” – Me.
