5 Bullet Friday! – Grow Time

Welcome back for this week’s 5 Bullet Friday!  Here are 5 things that have helped me grow this week:

1.  Essentialism by Greg McKeown

This book was recommended to me by a mentor and it’s been awesome. If you feel like you’re doing too much (I know you do) give this a read. It teaches you to identify and stick to, what is essential.

2.  David Goggins

The only person to ever complete Navy Seal training, Army Ranger training, and Tactical Air Control Party (Air Force special forces) training. Ultra Marathon Runner. Self-described hard mother f$!ker. Search this guy on YouTube, read his book, follow him on Twitter; and hope some of his mental toughness rubs off on you. He’s my new favorite human. Here was his morning message on twitter I shared with my team last week: “Don’t allow this weakened society to make you believe that it’s okay to just be a mediocre human being. Life isn’t about a trophy- but it sure is the f#$k about achieving more than what you ever thought was possible! Stay hard always! The guy is awesome. Atlanta Hawks owner Jesse Itzler had Goggins come live with him for a month to toughen him up, watch this hilarious video of him talking about it:  https://youtu.be/bklrNzdtU3Q

3.  Food Allergy Panel

I asked Wiggins if he could go back to his 20s and do 1 thing differently what would he do? He said he would have taken a food allergy panel test to better understand his body earlier in life. A food allergy panel tests your body’s sensitivity to different types of foods. Ever notice how after you eat some meals you’re tired and others you’re energized? It can be what you’re eating; no 2 bodies are alike. Wiggins found out his body’s sensitive to eggs and he ate them every day for 20 years.  Sensitive doesn’t mean you’re allergic, but foods you’re sensitive to will cause minor inflammation in your body, can slow you down, and eating them all the time for decades significantly increases chances of heart attack and stroke. Most people go through their entire lives oblivious to this. I ordered my food allergy panel this week on Everlywell.com. They mail you a kit with simple instructions, you send it back, and get your food sensitivity results back within the week. If you’re interested in optimizing your human, order a test kit and figure out what’s good and what’s not for your body!

4.  The Joe Rogan Experience

This has become my favorite podcast bar none. I’ve talked about bits and pieces from his podcast on here (see above clip with Jesse Itzler on David Goggins) but to get the full experience, you have to listen to a full episode. He has a plethora of guests from all walks of life on to discuss everything under the sun. Go to the podcast’s page, scroll and find a guest you find interesting, and tune in.  Some guests I listen to for 5 minutes and get bored and go to another, some I click on knowing nothing about the person he’s interviewing, and 4 hours later they’re one of my new favorite people. That’s probably my favorite part about it, getting introduced to scientists, athletes, comedians, etc. that I’ve never heard of before. Here are a couple of episodes I’ve enjoyed recently:
  • #1351 Dan Aykroyd-  They talk a lot about aliens and shit. The former SNL star is a little crazy, I think that’s what made this so interesting.
  • #1340 John Nores-  John Nores was a California Game Warden that started stumbling upon Mexican drug cartel grow ops.  He worked with the DEA and other government agencies on a joint task force to get rid of them. I never heard of him or his story before this podcast, but it was awesome.
  • #1315-  Bob Lazar & Jeremy Corbell- Bob Lazar is the guy who supposedly worked on alien spacecraft at Area 51 and Jeremy Corbell recently did a Netflix documentary interviewing him. His story is crazy. If you’ve never heard it, listen to this podcast.
  • #1314-  Charlamagne tha God & Andrew Schulz- These guys are radio personalities/comedians. Both hilarious. Funny stories/insight. 3 hours of entertainment for a long car ride.

5.  “If anyone tells you you’re working too hard or doing too much, look at how much money they make.” –  Grant Cardone
