5 Bullet Friday! – The Psychology of Persuasion

Welcome back! I hope everyone’s had a great week! Here are 5 things to ponder this weekend from:

1.  This Could Be Why You’re Depressed or Anxious

Awesome Ted Talk by a guy named Johann Hari. I can’t do it justice in a couple of words, check it out.  https://www.ted.com/talks/johann_hari_this_could_be_why_you_re_depressed_or_anxious#t-186243

2.  The Easy Way to Stop Drinking – By Allen Carr

I was listening to a podcast where someone mentioned how easy it was to quit drinking after they read this book. I wasn’t looking to stop drinking, but I was interested in how someone who was a pretty bad alcoholic said it was easy to quit drinking after simply reading a book. It dispels a lot of myths about alcohol and is pretty interesting. If you drink at all I recommend checking it out, super easy short read, probably under an hour cover to cover.

3.  The Psychology of Persuasion

A guy who used to work in my office sent me a link to an article he wrote about the psychology of persuasion and how to use it in sales. He talks about how certain words trigger certain emotions, and you can say the same thing with different words and get completely different results. Pretty cool article, check it out!  https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/psychology-persuasion-how-communicate-get-what-you-need-vonderhaar/

4.  Blue Light Lenses

From our computer screen to our phone, to our iPad (sorry I stole yours in Atlanta Gina I’ll ship it back this week) we’re constantly looking at electronic devices. Their screens give off something called blue light. Over time, blue light can damage our eyes and impair our vision. To help combat this problem, there are now blue light lenses. They’re glasses you can get, with or without prescription added on, to wear throughout the workday and/or at home. I noticed the details in my vision have decreased over the last few years so I picked up a couple of pairs earlier this year. They don’t improve your vision, but they do protect it from getting worse. If you look at screens all day, they’re a great proactive measure to protect your eyesight.

5.  Sticks and Stones

If you’re late to the party, check out Dave Chappelle’s new stand up special Sticks and Stones on Netflix. Trigger warning: It’s hilarious.

Have a great weekend!
