Hey guys! It’s Corey!
Here’s my first 5 Bullet Friday centered around optimizing your human experience.
You’re the one common denominator in everything you do, so here are some things I do to be the best me!
1. Intermittent Fasting
There are a ton of benefits. Fat loss, mentality clarity, more time in your day, save money! There are different styles of intermittent fasting, the easiest thing to do is start with an 8-hour window of eating (Ex. 12 pm-8 pm) and you can make the window smaller and smaller over time. I’m on a 4-hour window currently, I usually eat 1 big meal around 7-9 pm depending on my schedule for the day, and can have some snacks after if I’m still hungry. Outside of your eating window, water, and black coffee. If you’re working out BCAAs are awesome too. If you’re interested to check out the audiobook “Intermittent Fasting 101” it’s less than an hour long and $3.99 in the book store on your iPhone.
2. Alpha Brain
It’s Adderall without the heart palpitations. This stuff is awesome. Vitamins and nutrients designed to increase memory and focus with no stimulants. I take this every morning and can still feel it’s effects even after taking it for a year. My brain feels like when you buy a new tv, there was nothing wrong with the old one but when you get the new one you’re like holy shit that picture is clear. That’s how your brain will feel. 4k. If you want to try it out you can grab Alpha Brain instants at Whole Foods or Fresh Thyme markets, they have single-serving packets and if you like it you can subscribe monthly as I do on Onnit.com to save some money.
3. Sleep
A regular sleep schedule will make the world of difference in your day to day activities. Find out how much you need, everyone is different. 7 hours is good for me, so I aim to get at least 7 hours every night. If I can get 8 awesome, I’m charging my battery. If I get 6 I won’t die, but I’m draining my battery. I try to get 8 when I don’t have anything going on so that when something important comes up (the girl matched with on Bumble says let’s grab drinks) and I get 6 hours, I won’t be running on empty. Less than 6 and I’ll be crashing the next afternoon so I never do it. Find out what works for you.
4. Wake up!
Humans need 3 things to wake up in the morning: Hydration, Sun Light, and Movement. Make sure you get all 3 in before you reach for your coffee. Caffeine isn’t a healthy way to wake up. I drink mineral water (Springwater, sea salt, a quarter of a lemon) every morning as soon as I wake up. If you’re up before the sun, I got something called a Human Charger. It looks like an iPod and shoots UV light into your brain through your ears. It sounds stupid I know, but it’s prescribed by doctors for people with seasonal depression, so shit works. Once you turn your shower on and you’re waiting a minute or two for it to warm up do some pushups, jumping jacks, burpees, whatever you want, but get your blood flowing. Tony Robbins jumps on a mini-trampoline every morning and the g-force helps to get blood to your extremities and moving fast. I live in an apartment and don’t want to wake up my neighbors so instead of trampoline I go back to my skiing days and practice some 360s and 540s. Jumping and spinning left and right for a minute or two 1. It makes me laugh 2. Works on balance 3. Most importantly, really gets your blood flowing. By the time I get into the shower I’m fully awake. I can drink my coffee on my way to the office AFTER I’ve woken my body up naturally.
5. Workout
You should never go more than 2-3 days without physical activity. If not for your body, for your mind. Exercise is the best drug available to humans. I like to mix up my routine so working out is something I want to do, not something I have to do. I lift weights, play basketball, do plyometrics, swing kettlebells, I keep it fresh. Some weeks I’ll lift 5 days straight, some weeks I do something different every day. It doesn’t matter how you workout, as long as you work out.
Have an awesome Friday and weekend!
